Happy Sunday Lovelies! “Here Love Lies” is a kind of movie you have to see to the end before you give any form of commentary! It was such an awesome movie, you wouldn’t be expecting the twists at all! At first I was like awwwwnnn, such a beautiful, cheesy Nigerian romcom, but nothing prepared me for what came next.
The story is about a priest’s daughter Amanda who got pregnant at a young age and her family had to disown her because of the disgrace the pregnancy would bring to the family. Her father even laid a curse on her that the child would bring her as much trouble as he brought him (which was totally unnecessary in my opinion, because why?), but some African parents… you know.
Anyways, the movie progresses to years later when Amanda had grown and was now looking for a partner. You know how Nigerian men mostly make a UTurn when they hear a woman has a kid and all the crazy men you meet when you’re searching for a partner, that was all what Amanda went through.
She had finally found the right person in Jide, or so she thought, he was even about proposing, unknowingly to her, he was married. Omo! That experience made her promise to give up on love, cuz it seemed love wasn’t for her. Until loveee came in the form of Micheal! Our sweet, romantic, finee oyibo man who she met from the most unexpected place— her blog!
The way they portrayed Micheal to be the best man ever, omooooo, I just knew it was too good to be true!! The Nigerian in me just couldn’t stop thinking this was all too good, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop; and when it dropped, it dropped on our heads. Ah! 😂 No one expected that. I certainly didn’t!
Their story began from texting all the time, then love waxed stronger and stronger by the day. Sis even went to New York to surprise man. Adam. Lol. Okay, she went for something else, and branched to see man for a few days. Few days almost turned to forever.😂
Wait o, shall we talk about Micheal’s house? If it’s one thing I’ve learned from Hollywood movies, people that stay in that kind of house, decorated with dead animals are always racist and there’s always a psycho among them! Trust me. How did our Nigerian sister not fear and run away immediately she got there is still a shock to me, cuz I would Japa!! And I wasn’t wrong, there was a psycho!

Here love lies is such a beautiful movie, you should check it out if you haven’t. I loved the background music and how it fits perfectly into the situation. Her friend Kemi was such a vibe and even Muna was too cute. The acting was great in my opinion, everyone played their roles awesomely.
I loved how the storyline isn’t one I’ve seen in Nollywood before. I could be wrong, but I haven’t seen any like it. It was really good to me. I also feel there are some parts of the storyline that was neglected, for instance the story about her family seemed rushed and like they didn’t show much about it, but it was still alright.
Alsooo, were they trying to tell us single mothers wouldn’t find love and they should focus on their kids instead? However, I love how realistic it was, but at the same time, I wish it had a “…and now they lived happily ever after” ending. All in all, life isn’t fair and movies don’t have to be too!
“Here love lies” is an 8.5/10 for me. I think the rating does justice, because I really enjoyed the movie and I think you would too. It’s available on Netflix if you’d like to see it. You can check out the trailer here.
