Flawless Skin: 7 Beauty Tips Every Dry Skin Needs!

Having dry skin can be pretty annoying, coming from someone with dry skin around some parts of my body, I still find it kind of weird, but that’s a story for another day.

Dry skin isn’t that serious, it’s very common actually, a few times you might have noticed a part of your skin drier than normal and as long as it isn’t permanent, you are good to go! It can be caused by a range of underlying issues, from weather to aging, and even though it’s not all bad, we do not want it!

Lovelies, you know we want you glowingggg and looking beautiful all the time, and that’s why I’m making this post for you on beauty tips you can try on your dry skin:

1. Exfoliate

One obvious sign of dry skin is skin looking scaly (cracked, dry or flaky). Exfoliation is a way to remove dead skin cells on our body. Whether we like it or not, our skin cells die every 28 days and those dead cells just piling up isn’t doing anyone any good. Exfoliate to get them off and show the newer, brighter skin underneath.

There are 3 types of exfoliators; we have physical exfoliators (sugar scrubs and other body scrubs), chemical exfoliators (are enzymes and acid based products like Alpha and Beta-hydroxy acids), mechanical exfoliators (include laser treatments and microdermabrasion).

Over exfoliation is also bad for your skin, experts recommend once a week, it would help your skin without tiring it out.

2. Moisturise a lot!

Dry skin needs a lot of moisturising. Moisturisers help treat dry, itchy or irritated skin and they trap in moisture, leaving your skin soft, hydrated and protected from environmental damage.

Invest in good moisturisers and apply immediately after bathing because they would reduce the development of dryness and also revive your skin from dryness.

Look out for products with natural ingredients like aloe Vera, cocoa butter, etc, which would be gentle for your skin, leaving them soft and healthy.

3. Hydrate

We can’t say this enough, but drink lots of water. Adequate hydration helps the body get rid of toxins that cause dry skin and, in turn, maintain glowing skin. This is one of the most critical steps to take for a better skin. Don’t forget, the more water you drink, the better for your skin.

4. Use gentle, fragrance free skincare products

Some skin care products, such as deodorant soaps, are too harsh for dry, sensitive skin. Dermatologists recommend using products labeled “fragrance-free”.

If you see the word “unscented”, the product can contain chemicals that can hide the odors of other ingredients. These chemicals can irritate dry, sensitive skin.

5. Cut down on hot water baths

Use warm water and limit bath time. Long showers or baths and hot water remove your skin’s natural oils. Limit bathing to no more than once a day and no longer than 5-10 minutes. Use warm, not hot, water.

6. Dress with the weather in mind

Sun damage is one of the main causes of dry skin, wrinkles, and roughness. You can help prevent that damage by wearing sunscreen year-round and not over exposing your skin.

In cool weather, be sure to cover up to prevent skin getting dry and irritated.

7. Humidify

Hot, dry, indoor air can affect sensitive/dry skin and worsen itching and flaking. A portable home humidifier can add moisture to the air inside your home. You should get one if you can!

Glowing skin is about intentionality. You have to want the glowing skin to get it!
