Most women will get a vaginal yeast infection at some point in her life, Vaginal yeast infection is an infection of the vagina that causes itching and burning of the vulva, the area around the vagina and these infections are caused by an overgrowth of the fungus Candida. 

It’s a very common condition that can affect girls and women of all ages, but it’s mostly rare to have it before puberty and after menopause, according to research.

Who is at more risk of having vaginal yeast infections?

You are at a higher risk of having it if:

  • You use birth control 
  • You are pregnant 
  • You douche 
  • You are diabetic 
  • You recently took antibiotics like amoxicillin

What are the causes? 

Yeast infection is caused by the overgrowth of a fungus called Candida. Our vagina may have small amounts of yeast at any time without causing any symptoms, but when the yeast overgrows, you can get an infection.

How is yeast infection treated? 

Yeast infections are usually treated with antifungal medicine. You should see your physician to make sure that you have a vaginal yeast infection and not another type of infection before treating. You can easily buy antifungal treatments from any pharmacy without a prescription.
