Your concerns are valid too. So you guys need to plan well well and you follow him with care esp as doctor’s salary for Canada na die!! Be wise with how you disseminate info. Pray and ask God to stir your heart and your husband’s own the right way so it won’t cause problem.

Truck drivers are paid well in Canada. Some non-white collar jobs pay ok. No doubt, you’re more likely to be richer than him based on medicine is super lucrative there but it doesn’t mean he can’t earn enough to be the breadwinner while you’ll be babygirling with your money. Also, he can start trying to see if he can retain his Nigerian business, handover to good hands and run it from Canada. So he can have multiple sources of income. His fears are valid but with research and great emotional intelligence, you can surpass it

People abroad (especially in Canada) value experience more and they call it skilled trade. Even without a degree, experience will go a long way anywhere he goes. If he can show that he has experience in a particular area he’ll do better than ok – since he is the accompanying spouse and not the principal applicant, he’ll also be entitled to get access to things you have. Drs easily get jobs (there’s shortage of physicians as we speak) so it’ll be easy for him to also get a work permit or PR with you. He just needs to have some faith that it’s an opportunity to expand his business. Once his business is established, the sky is the starting point

He will need to get some form of qualification, and he’s able to translate his business experience on his resume well. Canada is very big on qualifications and certifications esp ones gotten there.

I relocated 6mths pregnant, had to study for my professional designation when she was 8 weeks, took a 1yr certificate course when she was 18mths. All this while having a Masters and work experience from the UK. It paid off extremely well though.

If you eventually agree to go together he should setup a system to keep his business still running in Nigeria so he’ll still have something before he’s able to get setup in Canada

He can start education. It’s not too late, he’s worried he can do something about it, thank God for technology online school and courses yapa, even down to customer service jobs which are easy.
Canada is even better depending on what he wants to do experience is appreciated more than a degree

Outside the shores of naija is the best place to grow without a degree. He can grow in an industry from the bottom, he must be ready to start from the bottom bit it is always rewarding. The biz back home can be entrusted to a trustworthy professional with a lot put in place,and if he can,he can shuttle around from time to time.

It would be good if he can find competent staff to manage his business for him while he’s out of the country. It doesn’t make sense for him to quit his livelihood just like that. Would you like to be the breadwinner for an unforeseen amount of time? Men feel emasculated when they’re not able to provide for their family.

Doctors don’t get work easily in Canada immediately. She’ll have to go through the whole conversion process which takes I think about two years. She’ll be like an assistant in the interim not a real doctor. She should research well

It’s a very valid fear that he doesn’t have a degree ..the odds of you becoming the breadwinner is very high and you know men and their ego..Define your relationship here very well, solidify your plans if you are going to relocate, both of you should come to terms with the new reality relocation will cause and if you are both on the same page then you move…if you’re not careful and do a hard think about this,this frustration will be inevitable..

Is he willing to go to school or at least do some courses or certifications to make him employable when he gets there? If he’s not then don’t bother because he will frustrate your destiny,he will either refuse to work or he’ll nag you to death whilst doing menial jobs. Workload and bills abroad will make you detest a partner who doesn’t work or is choosy about jobs.

There are jobs he can do in Canada without a degree. Besides he should see it as an opportunity for him to get one. There are 6 months certification course he can do to use to get work.

Medical doctors coming to Canada have a long way to go before they can get established again as medical doctors. Getting licensed in Canada is not easy at all. They are currently short staffed in most hospitals and are still not ready to employ immigrant doctors who have to do other jobs to survive.
